On Photographing Weddings:I began photographing weddings in on Block Island in 1986. My style is a melding of the spontaneity of photojournalism, traditional family photos and a creative eye that incorporates the enviroment as subject. The architectural details and romance of the Victorian hotels, the rolling hills, dramatic bluffs and always, the ocean play key roles in my images. My wedding coverage includes documenting all the events of the day. I carefully consult with my clients to establish an itinerary, and know the photographs they expect. I know the photographs that are 'must take'. Experience has taught me how to diplomatically and effectively move groups of people, working in different lighting situations and the art of being unobtrusive; getting the pictures everyone wants without calling attention to myself. Equally as important to me are the people. In addition to family and wedding party groupings there are candid photographs that capture the activity behind the scenes, the special relationships of honor attendants to the bride and groom, and the excitement unique to each event. But the unique and unexpected are captured as well; candid emotional expressions, groups of friends, the tear in the corner of an eye and they joy of children I am there. Most of all as a personal touch, I remember the names of all the key people, so as to direct them personally. I pride myself on my preparedness as well as my unobtrusive manner. What people remember most about me is I was fun to work with, never stopped photographing and all those great shots! |
